Hebrews‬ 11‬:‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.

In today’s time, we have Google and GPS to guide us where we are going. We know what the weather should be, what clothes to pack, and an idea of where we want to stop along the way. As children we trust that our parents will get us to our destination even though we might ask 50 million times, “are we there yet.” Think about the faith it took for Abraham to go not knowing where he was going. He had to put his trust in God, his Father, to guide him.

Looking back, has there been a time God called you to go? Did you have faith like Abraham? What is God calling you to do today? Are you open to taking the next step of faith? Our Christian journey is just that, a journey filled with many different destinations. We must trust God as our internal navigator. I encourage us today to take the next step in our go, whatever that may look like to each of us.

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You for being my internal navigator to guide me through this earthly life. Help me to take the next step in Your go plan. I’m Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV — By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.‬‬

Can you imagine the holy fear it took for Noah to build the ark? I wonder if he ever got tired or questioned the process or did he just persevere. Recently our youth group went through a series of “Would you rather?” questions. One of the questions was, “would you rather name the animals or build the ark?” Both took holy fear and faith. Both took commitment to follow through.

Building the ark was the first crazy step. In Genesis 7:2 the thought process of seven pairs of every kind of clean animal and one pair of every kind of unclean animal was the next crazy step. It was God. It was holy fear crazy. Check out the Ark Encounter where they encourage you to think bigger and the Creation Museum where they say, prepare to believe. If Noah only knew that one day his holy fear would now be displayed in a museum for all the world to see. I encourage us all to think big like Noah!

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You for the story of Noah. I desire to think big and live in holy fear with action faith. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

Reading our key verse, I want us to think about the assurance we have in God’s promises. According to the dictionary, assurance is a positive declaration intended to give confidence; a promise. We are blessed to have God’s word to tangibly hold and read. What about the unseen? Think about the commending faith of the Ancients in Hebrews 11. According to Merriam-Webster, assurance is the act or action of assuring someone or something: such as a pledge or guarantee.

Action shows the confidence we have in our hope. Last month I shared on memorizing scripture verses and Deborah shared on relishing time by living in today. As I typed today’s message, HisRadio talked about how it isn’t always easy to recall scripture verses, yet a song can play that reminds us. HisRadio then played “Trust In God” by Elevation Worship. Some of the lyrics sing: “Perfect submission. All is at rest. I know the author of tomorrow has ordered my steps.”

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You for being the Author of my tomorrow. May my faith be one that is confident in what I hope for and have assurance in what I do not see. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭27‬:‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

How do we gain our saltiness? For me personally, one way is by surrounding myself with people who will sharpen me. We may not like their saltiness in the moment but when they bring out our God-seasonings we appreciate them.

Fostering a healthy community of like-minded Christians who walk with us through humility, honesty, and grace is vital to our Christian walk. I pray that our Water Walker blog is a part of that community for all our readers and listeners. As we finish our last 90 days of the year, let’s remember to be salty Christians.

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You for our readers and listeners. Thank You for my community and those who sharpen me. Help me to stay salty. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭4‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭MSG‬‬ — Use your heads as you live and work among outsiders. Don’t miss a trick. Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out.

How do we lose our saltiness? In our key verse from Colossians, we are instructed not to miss a trick and make the most of every opportunity. It is easy to get comfortable in our Christian walk, however, God calls us to be uncomfortable. If we aren’t bringing out the best in ourselves and others, have we lost our salt?

I have written 5 “Be aware” suggestions to guide us as salty Christians.

  • Be aware of the enemy who tricks us into thinking we don’t need to be salty.
  • Be aware of opportunities to witness.
  • Be aware of God-given opportunities to give and accept Godly instruction.
  • Be aware of our Christian walk and our comfortability.
  • Be aware of our why! We are here for a God-given destiny.

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You for opportunities to be a witness. Guide me on my journey of being a salty Christian. Keep me uncomfortable for Your glory. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV — For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.‬‬

When I think about being the salt of the earth, I think about being God’s handiwork. This includes being His salt and light here on Earth. The best news, He has already prepped us and given us the tools we need. On this Waste Not Wednesday, let’s not waste the tools that God has given us to be salty.

In 2019 my word of the year was influence. I desired to be a positive influence over myself, my family, my friends, our blog, and my social network. According to the Dictionary, influence is the capacity to affect the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself. I have been following Influencer Rachel Hollis and her Last 90 Days Challenge for several years. As one of her “5 to Thrive,” I started fasting in October of 2018. In that fast, I was seeking God on what He had prepared my influence to be. I would later discover that God was preparing me for the hardest season of my life. My Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. As a form of prayer and therapy, I started my running journey. I pray that God will continue to use me to influence others in a positive way.

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You for creating me to be Your handiwork. Thank You for the tools I need to be salty. Show me how to be a positive influence for Your glory. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Jesus said in ‭‭Mark‬ ‭9‬:‭49‬-‭50‬ ‭MSG‬‬ — Everyone’s going through a refining fire sooner or later, but you’ll be well-preserved, protected from the eternal flames. Be preservatives yourselves. Preserve the peace.

We already know that salt can be used as a preservative. Have you thought about where salt comes from? Take a moment to watch and learn from Scope TV, how we get salt from the ground to the table.

As you can see, transforming salt isn’t a quick or easy process. Take a moment to re-read the key verse. Mark tells us we will go through a refining fire until we are well-preserved. I believe that refining fire is daily and that we will be well-preserved when we reach our heavenly home, eternally protected from the flames. Mark also instructs us to keep the peace. In the Beatitudes, we are called to be peacemakers. I believe that is when both salt and light show the world that Jesus is true peace.

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You that I can take on this Tuesday knowing that You are my true source of peace. As I am being refined in the fire, may others see You through my actions and reactions. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
