1 Timothy 5:8 — Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Ephesians 6:1-3 — Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise — “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

Today is Thanksgiving. Let’s spend time pondering our blessings and expressing our thanksgiving.

As many of you know, Clark and I have had the opportunity to have his parents move in with us. Clark was able to help his mom care for his dad for the last year and a half of his life. Currently, my parents are staying with us while they both recover from health issues. While it took some time for all of us to fall into a routine, I am so thankful for the opportunity. 

My parents set the bar high when they modeled care giving for me when I was younger. My last half of college and when I first graduated, my grandmother and later my uncle came to live with us. Clark’s mom also was a caregiver for her mom in the last years of her life. We were able to witness the blessing of caregiving first hand and for that I am so thankful.

What is your experience with caregiving? Have you been a caregiver or has someone cared for you? Take time today to express thanksgiving for the blessing of caregiving. Enjoy delicious food, memory making fellowship, and watch the Macey’s parade and football!

Let’s pray. Thank You Lord for caregivers and for the opportunity to be a caregiver. May we never take for granted the loved ones around our table. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Ephesians 3:14-21 NIV —  For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

This is Thanksgiving week. Let’s spend time pondering our blessings and expressing our thanksgiving. A couple weeks ago we explored the thought that the early Christians were trailblazers for our faith. Today’s scripture is believed to be penned by the apostle Paul while it was in prison. Today’s scripture is a prayer for the Ephesians. I believe this is also a prayer for you and I. 

Julie and I began the Water Walkers blog 10 years ago. Isn’t that hard to believe? Ray joined us four years ago and what a blessing this ministry together has been for me. The three of us encourage, challenge, and stretch one another’s beliefs and understandings. Our ministry together gives each of us purpose and stamina to continue to be water walkers. Just when one of us becomes discouraged, the others remind us that God “is able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine” and may we always give Him glory for all He does in and through us.

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You for putting others in our path to join together to do your ministry. May we always remember You can do more than we could ever ask or imagine and may we always give You glory for all that You do. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.  But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered,  two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Hebrews 10:25-25 NIV — And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

This is Thanksgiving week. Let’s spend time pondering our blessings and expressing our thanksgiving. I am thankful for Christian friends as well as my church family. Both groups help to strengthen and sustain me. When times are difficult I can share my burdens with my friends and church family and I can trust that each group is praying for me. I know my friends and church family will help me any way they are able. I know I can count on them in any situation.

Who are your friends and church family members that you rely on to encourage and sustain you? Take time to list their names and pray for each of them. Thank God for Christian friends and church family who spur you on in your Christian walk.

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You for Christian friends and a church family who spur me on, pray for me, strengthen me, and sustain me. May I never take for granted the blessing of Christian friends and a loving church family. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

As we begin Thanksgiving week together, spend time reading and meditating on the featured scripture for this week.

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭2‬:‭22‬-‭24‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

This week, we have shared the legacy we leave behind. Jesus created us to have a relationship with Him. Through Adam and Eve, He made man and woman. The legacy shared through marriage is a beautiful thing. My parents certainly had their fair share of trials and were a true legacy of the vows they shared, “for better or worse, to death do us part.” On this Savor Saturday, let’s savor the legacy woven through relationships.

On January 8, 2020 my parents were blessed that dad had lived to see 43 years of marriage. Their wedding song was “Make It With You” by Bread.

My husband, Hollie and I will be celebrating 25 years of marriage on December 2, 2025. Our wedding song was “When You Say Nothing At All” by Alison Krauss.

Deborah and Clark married on June 7, 1997. They shared “Surely The Presence Lord Is In This Place” originally sung by Lanny Wolfe and “O Perfect Love” composed by Joseph Barnby.

Ray and Leanne shared “In My Life” by the Beatles and “Harvest Moon” by Neil Young. They were married on the first Saturday in May because that is the day the Kentucky Derby is always run. They shared a LOVE for the derby. By picking the First Saturday in May, it’s always on a Saturday which is great.

‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬-‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

This week, we are sharing the legacy we leave behind. On January 16, 2020 when I could finally say I accepted that dad would cross the finish line and be healed. Not the same finish line that you and I see, rather he would be healed when he crossed the finish line in heaven. He had run a good race and the finish line was in sight.

In the final hours we found joy in sharing his legacy with each other. We held hands and prayed over dad. We each gave dad permission to let go. We comforted him as he ran his last race and crossed the finish line to his eternal home. How are you running your race of life?

We can take joy in this journey of life knowing heaven is cheering us on. Join us in worship with We are Almost Home by Mercy Me.

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You for the example You have given me to leave a legacy to finish my race strong. Help me to find joy, even when the journey feels long. I press on for Your glory. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
