Matthew 4:19-22 NIV — “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him. Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

This week we are sharing thoughts about interruptions. An interruption can be stopping activity for a time or break in the continuity of something. What comes to mind when you think of interruption? 

Often we think of interruptions in our day and schedules. Take a moment to think about God’s interruptions. God interrupted Peter, Andrew, James, and John through Jesus when He called them to follow Him and become fishers of men. Notice in today’s key verse, Matthew says the men “immediately” left their boat and their family. When God interrupts us, do we immediately respond? 

Are you experiencing an interruption? I encourage you to think about how the Apostle Paul tells us that through the Spirit we have the characteristics of peace and faithfulness. When God interrupts, we should have peace. With God’s perfect peace, we can be a faithful follower of Christ Jesus.

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭22‬-‭23‬ ‭NIV‬ — But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You for calling me to follow You. I seek Your perfect peace so that I can be a faithful follower. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭18‬:‭41‬-‭44‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — And Elijah said to Ahab, “Go, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy rain.” So Ahab went off to eat and drink, but Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees. “Go and look toward the sea,” he told his servant. And he went up and looked. “There is nothing there,” he said. Seven times Elijah said, “Go back.” The seventh time the servant reported, “A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea.” So Elijah said, “Go and tell Ahab, ‘Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’ ”

This week we are sharing thoughts about interruptions. An interruption can be stopping activity for a time or break in the continuity of something. What comes to mind when you think of interruption? 

God interrupted again with a much needed rain cloud. On the seventh time the servant Ahab was able to report a cloud of rain after a time of drought and famine. 

Are you experiencing an interruption? I encourage you to not lose hope. This story gives us hope to keep seeking, keep praying, and not give up before the miracle. In Isaiah 43:18-19 we read that God is doing something new.

Worship with, There Is A Cloud by Elevation Worship. Some of the lyrics sing, “hear the Word, roaring as thunder with a new, future to tell. For the dry, season is over. There is a cloud, beginning to swell.”

Let’s pray. Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the details and planning over my life. I surrender my plans and time to You. I seek You for the details. I don’t want to miss a thing. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭7‬:‭4‬-‭5‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — …Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.” And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him.”

This week we are sharing thoughts about interruptions. An interruption can be stopping activity for a time or break in the continuity of something. What comes to mind when you think of interruption? 

Often we think of interruptions in our day and schedules. Take a moment to think about God’s interruptions. God interrupted creation when He told Noah to take his whole family, the animals, and birds into the ark in preparation for the rain. God sent the rain on the seventh day when He wiped out the Earth.

For 40 days and 40 nights, God kept flooding the Earth and it remained flooded for 150 days. God took care of every detail, from the ark, to the animals, and to Noah and His family. Are you experiencing an interruption? I encourage you to seek God for the details. When we think He is quiet, He is behind the scenes taking care of the details. 

Let’s pray. Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the details and planning over my life. I surrender my plans and time to You. I seek You for the details. I don’t want to miss a thing. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

This week we are sharing thoughts about interruptions. An interruption can be stopping activity for a time or break in the continuity of something. What comes to mind when you think of interruption? 

Often we think of interruptions in our day and schedules. Take a moment to think about God’s interruptions. God first interrupted on the seventh day of creation when He created rest. Just as God rested after He created the heavens and Earth, God created us for relationship, service, and intentional rest. We may not always be able to rest on Sundays,but I encourage us to intentionally find pockets of time to rest with God.

Let’s pray. Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for creating me to rest with You. I surrender my plans and time to You. Guide me in intentionally finding pockets of time for rest. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Colossians 3:12-14 NIV — Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

I don’t know about you, but I do not agree with everyone’s opinion, lifestyle, or choices. God doesn’t say I have to, but He does say I must love all. Loving others is shown in the characteristics listed in today’s featured scripture. Even when I don’t agree with others I must show them compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 

Read the Message version of Colossians 3:12-14 — So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.

Today is Valentine’s Day, also known as the Day of Love. As we have shared this week, love is not just a romantic love. God’s call is for us to love all. Loving all is not easy. We must surrender our will and allow God’s will to lead us. God calls us to put on and wear love. How will you show love to others today?

Let’s pray. Thank You God for loving me. Forgive me when I have not loved others as You would have me. Guide and direct my words and actions as I strive to put on and wear love each day. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
