‭‭Psalms‬ ‭34‬:‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

If you have not already, I encourage you to read all of Psalm 34 NIV. I also encourage you to really listen and worship with Sunday’s song Psalm 34 (Taste and See) by Shane & Shane. Some of the lyrics sing: ”Magnify the Lord with me. Come exalt His name together. Glorify the Lord with me. Come exalt His name forever. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, bless us here who hides in Him.”

I want us to think about the non-believers in this world. Psalm 34 is an invitation to see what we as Christian’s already know and experience daily. Maybe it is time that you invite a non-believer to your table or to your church. Food and fellowship are two great ways to reach out. We are blessed to have a personal relationship with Christ Jesus. We should be shining His glory for all to see and know.

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You for living in me. I magnify Your Name and glorify You for the world to see that You are good. Help me to share Your amazing grace and love with all Your children. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

Take time today to meditate on this week’s scripture.

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭34‬:‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭19‬-‭20‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — Give us today our daily bread.

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭8‬:‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭9‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do.

Join us as we finish up the week on goals! Have you made mind, body, and spiritual goals?

Tara-Leigh Cobble @thebiblerecap suggests daily praying these 5 prayers before you read God’s Word:

  1. God, give me wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
  2. Let any knowledge I gain help me love You and others more, and not puff me up.
  3. Help me see something new about You that I’ve never seen before.
  4. Correct any lies I believe about You or anything I misunderstand.
  5. Direct my steps according to Your Word. Amen.

John‬ ‭3‬:‭30‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — He must become greater; I must become less.

Have you prayerfully selected a word, mantra, or verse to lean into for 2025? Have you made any resolutions or declarations?

As we close out our week on being humble, I want to share some short Bible verses that can easily be remembered and help us to stay humble. In our key verse, John instructs us that we must become less.

Matthew instructs us to be last in ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭20‬:‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — So the last will be first, and the first will be last.

Paul instructs us to give God glory in Philippians 4:20 NIV — To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Let’s close out the week with a New Year’s resolution joke that is actually good advice for 2025. What’s a spider’s New Year’s resolution? To spend less time on the Webb.

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

On this thankful Thursday and in keeping in mind today’s key verse, I want us to evaluate 2024. Did you have any selfish ambition? Did you put others before yourself? How can you improve in 2025? I encourage us to make a list of ways that we can put the interest of others before ourselves. We can look at it as a gratitude list or a “get to” list.

As we are making our lists we can keep in mind the chorus to this week’s song choice, Simple Kingdom by Bryan and Katie Torwalt: “Your kingdom is humble. As humble as death. Its King is a savior. Who gave His last breath. So may we die daily. Our pride laid to rest. Your kingdom is humble. And the broken are blessed.”

Our lists could be as simple as, hold the door open for strangers, ask a co-worker or friend if they need help with anything, sign up to serve in a church or community event, or simply offer to pray for others in need.

Let’s pray. Dear God, I humbly come before You, broken and blessed. Thank You for daily providing opportunities to serve You and others. I desire to bring You all the glory, honor, and praise. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
