James 4:13-17 NIV — Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

Last week Julie encouraged us to live for today. This week I will go a step further and encourage you to focus on what matters most as you live for today. Today’s key verse says, “You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” The Message version says it like this, “You’re nothing but a wisp of fog, catching a brief bit of sun before disappearing.” The point is, our lives are short and we must make the most of what we do with our time. What is your focus? Are you consumed by the circumstances around you? What do you do to intentionally stay focused on Christ and His call on your life?

Let’s pray. Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for my life. Forgive me when my focus is on earthly matters instead of being focused on You and Your call on my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Philippians 4:4-9 NIV

Hebrews 13:5-6 NIV — Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

Matthew 6:28-34 NIV

Philippians 4:13 NKJV — I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
