Matthew 14:22-33 NIV — Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
“Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
Today’s featured scripture is the basis of the name of our blog. Water Walkers was born out of the desire to trust God to take us outside of our comfortable boat, take risks, and walk on water for His glory. As I reflect on the years since Julie and I first stepped out of our boat, I see times that we were so focused on Jesus that it seemed we were walking on a smooth, glassy, vast, ocean. Other times the water has been choppy, trying, and unpredictable causing us to desire to return to our boat of safety. However, God has always been walking with us, with His steady, strong arm guiding and directing our steps. As long as we trust, believe, and have faith in the fact that God is Omnipresent (all-present), Omnipotent (all-powerful), Omnibevolent (all-loving), and Omniscient (all-knowing), water walking should be easy. We hope you all will continue stepping out of your boat and joining us daily as we all walk on water for God, no matter whether the water is smooth or turbulent.
Let’s pray. Dear Holy Father, thank You for being Omnipresent, Ominopent, Omnibevolent, and Omniscient. May I always keep my eyes on You and trust that no matter the water conditions around me, I can walk on water with You by my side and for Your glory. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
