What do you long for? What is your focus? Do you think a lot about what new item/items you want to purchase? Are you consumed with your finances and how to make more money? Do you spend your time working for earthly treasures?

Each day this week I have challenged you to think about your treasures and your focus. In other words, I have asked you to examine your heart. What does your heart long for? Is your focus on money, fame, influence, success, or power? How can you build treasures in Heaven?

Click here to read the entire Sermon On the Mount found in Matthew 5-7. While it is a longer read than the usual scripture we share, it is a synopsis of Christian living. Living as Christ directs us in this sermon will equip us to store treasures in Heaven.

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You for the Sermon On the Mount and the examples Christ set for me. Help me to be more like Christ each day so I will be building my Heavenly bank. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Matthew 6:19-21 MSG — Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or — worse! — stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it’s safe from moth and rust and burglars. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.

What is on your mind? What is your focus? Where is your treasure?

Yesterday I encouraged you to assess what treasures you are storing here on Earth and what treasures you are storing in Heaven. Take a moment to click here and read Billy Graham’s thoughts, taken from his writings, on storing treasures in heaven.

As Christians, our ultimate goal is to go to Heaven. Now think again about what treasures you are storing in Heaven. What do you do each day to build eternal treasures? As Billy Graham asked, what building materials are you sending up?

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You Lord for preparing a place for me in Heaven. Open my eyes today to ways to store treasures in Heaven instead of on earth. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Matthew 6:19-21 NIV — Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

To store up means to put something away to save it for later. Do you have material or earthly items that you store up or save? What is the special occasion you are waiting for to use those items? Do you have a specific date in mind or is the special occasion a vague time and you just want to be ready?

In today’s scripture, Jesus tells us not to store up earthly treasures but instead to focus on building our heavenly bank. Today, meditate on Matthew 6:19-21 and ask yourself what treasures you are storing. How are you storing treasures in heaven?

Let’s pray. Dear God, open my eyes to the treasures I am storing. Show me ways to focus more on building my heavenly bank instead of earthly treasures. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭13‬ ‭MSG‬‬ — Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.

Join us by clicking the link to our See You Saturday YouTube video on being the bacon.

Deborah and I enjoyed a nice walk after making our video so we could get our movement done for the day. How are you doing with the last 90 days? Are you getting your 5 to thrive in? As a reminder that is waking up an hour earlier to make time for you and God, writing your 5 gratitudes, 30 minutes of movement, eating healthy, and drinking half your body weight in water. You got this!

Cottage Cheese BLTA Bowl: 1/2 cup – 1 cup of cottage cheese, 1-2 cups of shredded lettuce, a handful of cherry tomatoes, half an avocado, and 2 slices of crumbled bacon. Salt and pepper to taste.

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭27‬:‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬ — As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

How do we gain our saltiness? For me personally, one way is by surrounding myself with people who will sharpen me. We may not like their saltiness in the moment but when they bring out our God-seasonings we appreciate them.

Fostering a healthy community of like-minded Christians who walk with us through humility, honesty, and grace is vital to our Christian walk. I pray that our Water Walker blog is a part of that community for all our readers and listeners. As we finish our last 90 days of the year, let’s remember to be salty Christians.

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You for our readers and listeners. Thank You for my community and those who sharpen me. Help me to stay salty. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭4‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭MSG‬‬ — Use your heads as you live and work among outsiders. Don’t miss a trick. Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out.

How do we lose our saltiness? In our key verse from Colossians, we are instructed not to miss a trick and make the most of every opportunity. It is easy to get comfortable in our Christian walk, however, God calls us to be uncomfortable. If we aren’t bringing out the best in ourselves and others, have we lost our salt?

I have written 5 “Be aware” suggestions to guide us as salty Christians.

  • Be aware of the enemy who tricks us into thinking we don’t need to be salty.
  • Be aware of opportunities to witness.
  • Be aware of God-given opportunities to give and accept Godly instruction.
  • Be aware of our Christian walk and our comfortability.
  • Be aware of our why! We are here for a God-given destiny.

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You for opportunities to be a witness. Guide me on my journey of being a salty Christian. Keep me uncomfortable for Your glory. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV — For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.‬‬

When I think about being the salt of the earth, I think about being God’s handiwork. This includes being His salt and light here on Earth. The best news, He has already prepped us and given us the tools we need. On this Waste Not Wednesday, let’s not waste the tools that God has given us to be salty.

In 2019 my word of the year was influence. I desired to be a positive influence over myself, my family, my friends, our blog, and my social network. According to the Dictionary, influence is the capacity to affect the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself. I have been following Influencer Rachel Hollis and her Last 90 Days Challenge for several years. As one of her “5 to Thrive,” I started fasting in October of 2018. In that fast, I was seeking God on what He had prepared my influence to be. I would later discover that God was preparing me for the hardest season of my life. My Dad was diagnosed with stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. As a form of prayer and therapy, I started my running journey. I pray that God will continue to use me to influence others in a positive way.

Let’s pray. Dear God, thank You for creating me to be Your handiwork. Thank You for the tools I need to be salty. Show me how to be a positive influence for Your glory. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
