“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
The writer of scriptureand.blogspot.com wrote: “There is a choice repeatedly laid before mankind. Choose to listen, obey, and trust God’s voice or listen to other voices (including your own). “ This week as I have read about and meditated on the word truth, Satan has been at work whispering lies in my ear and trying to sway me from the real Truth and trying to get me to listen to my own voice. Every now and then I would lose my focus and allow anxiety to sneak in and upset me. Rachel Hollis says, “Anxiety is fear of a made up future.” Therefore when Satan is wagging his tongue and trying to induce anxiety we must stop letting the wheels of our brain turn and turn thinking about all the what ifs. Instead we must listen to the voice of truth. Where can we turn to hear the voice of truth?
Turn to prayer. In John 16:13 Jesus tells us, “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own, he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” In this passage Jesus is talking about the Holy Spirit who guides us. Spending time in prayer will help you be in tune to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Listen, obey and trust God’s voice that comes through Scripture and the Holy Spirit.
Turn to Scripture. When you are looking for understanding, guidance and direction, open your Bible and find God’s truths. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” So when in doubt, when Satan is causing you to worry, look to God’s Holy word. Listen, obey and trust God’s voice that comes through Scripture.
Turn to Christian friends. Yesterday I had the pleasure of enjoying some porch time with a special friend. As we shared some of our struggles and frustrations my wise friend reminded me that we must keep our eyes on Jesus. Last night I was able to FaceTime with some longtime friends who also gave me words of encouragement and advice. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says, “Two are better that one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” Listen, obey and trust God’s voice that comes through Christian friends.
Now turn back to prayer. I hear God’s voice more clearly when I sit quietly, talk and listen to the One True Voice of Truth. Again I encourage you to spend time with God daily. Spend time getting to know Jesus Christ. The more time you spend in prayer and Scripture the more easily you will be able to measure and hear God’s truth.
What voices have you been listening to? Has the media’s voice been overshadowing the Truth of God’s word? Do you need to turn off the other voices so you can hear the real voice of truth? Listen to the words of the song, “Voice of Truth” by Casting Crowns as you prayerfully examine where you are hearing the truths that are leading you. I encourage you to listen, obey, and trust God’s voice of truth.
