#encounteringjesus
-A new day can turn disappointment into reappointment for finding Joy-
We read about the Disciples encountering Jesus after his death and resurrection in John, chapter 21. When the Disciples went out to fish that first night on the sea of Galilee, they caught nothing. Early the next morning is when Jesus appeared and stood on the shore. We read in John 21: 5-6; He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t; you any fish?” “No,” they answered. He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, there were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.
This past week we had a tornado come through our yard and did some damage to our home and property. It was very disappointing at first sight but once the sun came out and we were able to start the cleanup process I started to encounter Jesus in a beautiful way. We read in Psalm 30: 4-5 “Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people: praise his holy name. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” As each new day passes our circumstances improve. It is amazing how a new day can turn disappointment into a reappointment for finding Joy. I cannot really compare the disappointment the Disciples felt when Jesus was Crucified. I can compare the Joy I feel today with how the Disciples encountered Jesus on the shore of Galilee. We are blessed to have the opportunity to encounter Jesus daily.
One of my encounters this week was a beautiful butterfly. It reminded me of the saying; “If nothing ever changed there would be no butterflies” – Walt Disney. Will you encounter Jesus this week? I encourage you to look for ways to find joy during disappointment.
