#aseasontohydrate

Lent, a time of fasting, a time of self-denial, a time of renewal, a time for your soul to become hydrated, a time to draw closer to God.

I have felt the nudge the last couple of weeks to give up coffee for lent this year. Those that know me, know this is going to be a difficult task. This past October, for 32 days I gave up coffee so that my body would be hydrated for my half marathon, a non-biblical fast. During this upcoming season of lent, I want to give up coffee so that my soul can by hydrated.

I had confirmation, or what I call a God wink this week. Last month a few of us at work talked about different types of hot tea. I was intrigued by this conversation because I had really gotten into drinking hot tea during my previous coffee fast. I had shared with a co-worker that I had never tried peppermint tea. Fast forward to this month, a co-worker brought me a packet of peppermint tea to try. Although I prefer black teas that are caffeinated, I truly enjoyed my peppermint tea. Especially because it was a small gift that meant so much.

Will you be participating in Lent this season? I have participated for several years now and have always said I would never give up coffee because that would be too difficult. I have already endured many difficult trials this past year of my life. Giving up coffee is minor compared to the trials Jesus endured for our grace and the earthly trials we experience today. I encourage you to not only participate but to give up something that will be challenging.

The 2020 season of lent runs 46 days, from February 26th to April 11th with Sundays as a day of rest and celebration. During this season, I will pray; “Create in me a pure heart, oh God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the Joy of your salvation and grant me with a willing Spirit, to sustain me”. Psalm 51:10-12 NIV.
