When I was a little girl there was an older couple in our church that took my family under their wings. They became like family and my brother and I called them Aunt Helen and Uncle Archie. Uncle Archie was a wealth of knowledge and advice. As children do, I would sometimes become frustrated when having to wait on something. On those occasions Uncle Archie would encourage me and quietly say, “Patience and perseverance.” Needless to say, his advice would often frustrate me even more because in my heart I knew he was right.

I have shared with you often that what I consider my life verse is Isaiah 40:31. Let me share it again along with the few verses before.
“Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and your men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:28-31
Yesterday as I was praying and studying scripture about patience I had an insight about my life verse. Perhaps God gave me this as my life verse so many years ago because He knew patience and perseverance would be an area that I would be tested and would need to hold this promise close. The King James Version of verse 31 says, “But they that wait upon the Lord…” Wait: stay where one is or delay action until a particular time or until something else happens. Waiting is not easy. Waiting can be long. Waiting takes patience and perseverance.
One of my daughter Briley’s Christmas gifts was tickets to see Lauren Daigle in concert. I have always liked her music but to familiarize myself more with her I have been listening to one of her “stations” on Spotify when I run. Last week after God had already revealed to me that patience would be our word for the week I really listened and heard the words of Lauren Daigle’s song “Everything.” As many of you know we have had our house on the market and have been in a season of waiting. When I heard the song I was running and praying about our house. The beginning words of the song nearly dropped me to my knees.
“Even the sparrow has a place to lay its head
So why would I let worries steal my breath?
Even the roses, You have glowed them brilliant red
Still I’m the one You love more than this.
You give me everything
You give me everything
You give me everything I need.”
What are you waiting for in this season of life? What is God teaching you about patience and perseverance? No matter what we are waiting on we can trust that God is working everything out for our good. Please take a few minutes and listen to this song. May you feel God’s loving arm of comfort as you listen. Trust that He will give you everything you need.
