~It is through my humility that I shine His glory~
I can’t believe God used me to bring glory to his name. When I think of the word glory, I also think of humility. It is through my humility that I shine His glory.
In different seasons of our lives, God uses us. For this season of my life, it happens to be through my running journey.
Last Spring when Dad had to miss out on the Easter activities due to cancer, his comment to me was that his cancer was nothing in comparison to what Jesus endured dying on the cross for our sins. I have always said, running has been my sacrifice for Dad. Running can be both mentally and physically challenging. It is a pain I am willing to endure so that I can gain new strength from God and use that time for prayer and worship. We read about how Jesus endured the cross and how we are no different in the pain that we experience in 2 Tim 2:8-10 NLT; “Always remember that Jesus Christ, a descendant of King David, was raised from the dead. This is the Good News I Preach. And because I preach this Good News, I am suffering and have been chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained. So, I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen”. Did you catch that? The word of God cannot be chained!
Often, we wonder who am I? And how can God use me? Remember, if the word of God cannot be chained, neither can we. The Holy Spirit who lives in us is God’s living and active word. I love this image of Jesus as a tender plant in Isa 53: 2 ASV; “For he grew up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him”. We too are a tender plant, rooted out of dry ground. We have the choice to grow into His beauty. We have the choice to be nurtured spiritually, mentally, and physically so that as His rooted plant, we can flourish for his glory. Despite our illness, or external beauty, or status, God can turn our dry ground into rich soil.
My goal for running the half marathon was to simply finish the race. Never did I imagine that I would place 3rd. The experience was so surreal. As my mentor has said, the Run for God message is running and living in the supernatural. That day I felt as if God was carrying me. This is the day the God had been preparing me for and I knew He wanted me to enjoy it. We read in Psalm 37:4; “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart”. Ultimately, we all would love to win. I think deep down God saw that as a desire in my heart. In verses 5-6; “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make you righteous shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land”. As I mentioned earlier, He ultimately wants us to Shine for His glory. If only we would always commit our ways and trust in Him. The moment I registered for the half marathon, I started second guessing myself, but I knew that God would equip me to finish this ten-month journey and carry me to the finish line.
One of the songs on my running playlist is “I Can’t Believe” by Elevation Worship;
“I can’t believe the price you paid for me, that you did not owe so that I could know you. How can it be, you chose someone like me to declare your praise for the glory of your name”.
