In finding your purpose or its purpose God gives you a hunger for something more. It’s in our hunger pains and sometimes spiritual famine that we find our desires, our joys, and our calling. The purpose then gets fed and God eventually brings that hunger back. It’s called the Journey of spiritual growth. How boring would life be if we continually felt full?

The definition of hunger is; a feeling of discomfort or weakness caused by lack of food, coupled with the desire to eat. In our times of spiritual famine we can cling to Isa 58:11 NIV; “And the Lord will continually guide you, and satisfy your desire in scorched places, and give strength to your bones; And you will be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail”.
This morning I had the privilege of seeing two deer in our yard. It made me think of Psalm 23. Earlier this week on our blog FB and IG page @waterwalkers29, I referenced Psalm 23:1. I talked about how David was hand picked to be a shepherd, how Jesus was our ultimate shepherd, and how now we are called to feed His sheep. If you look at Psalm 23:2, just like those deer this morning; “He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul”. It is amazing to me that those deer know when to come out and feed off the richness of the grass. It is in the stillness, in the quietness when its dark and most of us are asleep. When do we come out to feed? It is in our quiet time with God, when no one is looking that we feed of the richness of His word.
Do you feel like you are in a season for spiritual famine? Don’t lose hope, God will satisfy your desire in those scorched places. He is continually growing you and preparing you for the next season of your Journey. Remember in Psalm 23:4 NIV; “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me: your rod and your staff, they comfort me”.
Do you currently feel fed? Like in Psalm 23:5, is your cup overflowing? God has brought you to this watered garden, where the spring of water continually flows. Take some time to thank God for this season. Be a good shepherd and overflow this season of fullness into the lost sheep.
