One of my favorite promises to stand on is from Phil 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. We tend to forget verse 12; “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” The last few days we’ve talked about what can steal your peace. From my perspective, number one; not forgiving those that have wronged us and number two; not having a thankful posture. Today we are going to explore what it means to be content.
The definition of contentment; a state of happiness and satisfaction. What is the third thing that can steal your peace? From my perspective it is the absence of contentment. During the summer, my morning to do list has been; devotion, homework, and running. Its been timed just right that I have been on the treadmill during the Price is Right game show. Seeing the excitement on the contestants faces when the possible prizes are displayed is amazing. I had a crazy thought, what if the prize was the gift of “Peace”? What would that look like for us individually? And would we be jumping up and down in excitement?
Contentment and the gift of peace could look different for so many. It may be Free of addiction, or financial freedom, or a wayward child comes home, or a marriage mended, or a loved one saved, or a cancer patient healed. As humans, we think we know what contentment looks like, so we continually strive for more. Once more gets here, our idea of contentment changes. We become unsettled and are no longer at peace with ourselves. Because we are humans, I don’t think there is any self-help book that could change this other than God’s word. If you are looking for contentment and peace, start your morning with God and with a thankful posture.
I loved reading your responses to my question; what are you grateful for? Here were your responses; Today, remission, family, a child’s prayer; “God take care of everyone and please help us harvest the crops before the storm”, the gift of life; “God is amazing how He creates life and allows it to bloom and prepare for life outside the womb”. Once we start listing what we are thankful for, many times we are filled with contentment.
I encourage you this week to evaluate what contentment looks like for you. Ask God to settle your heart and give you His perfect peace. There are days when your Journey to peace is longer than others, remember that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

Even in the middle of finding contentment & peace God is with us. He sets a table in the middle of our mess. We just need to prophesy His promises.
