#calling by: Deborah Ard
What is your calling? What is your purpose? Have you identified it? Can you name it? You are a child of God and for that reason alone, you have a calling on your life.
You probably have many callings; wife, husband, mom, dad, daughter, son, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, grandmother, grandfather, church member, coworker, the list goes on and on. Our callings or purpose help to make us who we are and bring with them much responsibility and emotion. Here are some of my callings. I am a wife. In fact, today is our 22nd anniversary! I am a mother. Just this week my daughter graduated from 5th grade and my son graduated from 8th grade. I am a kindergarten teacher and today is the last day of school! I am a niece and last Friday one of my precious aunts passed away rather unexpectedly. My list could go on and on. As you might expect, this past week hasn’t been the easiest. It has been a stressful and emotional week. At moments I felt overwhelmed and weary. However, God was with me every step and always renewed my spirit just when I needed it. I share all this to say, no matter what circumstances your callings bring you to, your first calling is daughter/son of the One True King. While all your callings may help to make you “who” you are your first calling defines “whose” you are. Today, rest in the assurance that “whose” you are is the calling that defines all you say and do. Trust in the knowledge that He will give you all you need to accomplish all He calls you to do even when the circumstances are difficult. Allow this promise from God to renew, encourage, and give you strength.
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil. May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-24 NIV
