#NewBeginnings by: Julie Wicker
I can’t believe summer is gone. I was so blessed with my career move that I was able to have five weeks off with my children. Many days were just spent relaxing at home. My husband and I also took time this summer to teach them how to be entrepreneurs.
Kendal is an Origami Owl Designer. Trevor assists Hollie with RV Repair. They both helped me clean condos and even babysat a few times. This week I will have two children going into High School. Although they both seem very independent and act like they are 14 going on 18, I know my children need me the most right now in their lives.
Starting a new school year naturally gives us all a sense of anxiousness and excitement, but it also brings worry and fear. After touring the High school this past week, my children feel a little more at ease. They have given me a list or desired school supplies to equip them to be successful. More importantly, my children still ask me to pray for them so that they can be successful.
This summer on one of our beach trips I came across a crab. The crab’s hard shell reminded me of the protection we have through Christ. Mark Batterson says, there is a target on our back. As Christians we must fight harder against the schemes of the devil. We need to speak life into our children. I love helping my children develop a prayer card they can carry with them wherever they go.
I start by making a list of tools they need:
• Sense of direction Psalm 32:8
• Clarity on assignments/work for the Lord Col 3:23
• Favor for success Ps 90:17
• Healthy friendships Prov 27:17
• Great teacher/student relationships 1 Pet 2:17 & 1 Tim 4:12
• Safety of students and faculty Ps 91:4
• Cast away fear De 31:6
• Drive for perseverance Gal 6:9
• Confidence Phil 4:13
Now I need to turn this list into a prayer that they can go to Lord wherever and whenever they need to. So, I went to my bible and started digging in God’s word. I wanted to share this prayer with you.
Father,
Thank you for your instruction and teaching me in the way I should go. I seek clarity on all my assignments, I strive to work as I am working for you Lord bringing you all the glory, honor, and praise. Shower your favor upon me and the work of my hands. You say Iron sharpens Iron, I ask that you help me to continue to build healthy friendships. Equip me to give the proper respect to my administrators, teachers, and assistants they deserve. In return I pray no one looks down on me for my age, equip me to be the example for others. Cover me with your protection as I travel, as I go to school, and after school activities. Cast away any fears I may have, help me to be strong and courageous as you are with me wherever I go. Help me to persevere throughout my day and the school year so that I will not get tired and at the proper time reap the benefits of the hard work you have done through me. I am confident I will conquer this school year because I can do all things through Christ Jesus who gives me my strength. In the name of Jesus Amen
